Leapmotor accelerates in Europe with Spanish production from 2026

The Chinese automobile manufacturer Leapmotor is preparing a major offensive on the European market with the launch of production of its electric vehicles in Spain from 2026. This initiative, carried out in partnership with the Stellantis group, represents an ambitious strategy to establish itself sustainably in the face of local and Asian competition.

The decision to produce the Leapmotor B10 and B05 models at the Stellantis factory in Figueruelas, near Zaragoza, was made official recently. The B10 will enter production in 2026, followed by the B05 at the beginning of 2027. This localization of production aims to reduce logistics costs and adapt to the specificities of the European market.

For the Spanish automotive industry, this collaboration opens new economic and professional perspectives. It is expected to generate skilled jobs and strengthen the local supply chain, while positioning Spain as a strategic hub for electric mobility in Europe.

The competitive context is particularly intense, with the rise of Chinese brands and European regulatory pressure for the ecological transition. Leapmotor relies on advanced technologies and competitive prices to attract European consumers, who are often reluctant to face Asian electric vehicles.

In Germany, this development is being closely followed by automotive players, keen to maintain their leadership in the face of this new competition. Analysts say this local production could influence pricing strategies and technological innovation across Europe.

The partnership with Stellantis, announced in 2023, allows Leapmotor to benefit from industrial expertise and an established distribution network. Stellantis, for its part, is strengthening its electric range and accessing competitive Chinese technologies, after recent financial difficulties.

The environmental implications are also significant, with production closer to consumer markets reducing the carbon footprint. This approach aligns with European climate neutrality objectives, while meeting the growing demand for affordable electric vehicles.

In the medium term, this establishment could reshape European automotive geography, attracting other Asian investments and stimulating local innovation. Consumers could benefit from a greater diversity of models and prices, thus accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility.
