The black box of the Iryo 6076 train, hit by a Renfe AVE on October 28 near Urda (Toledo), has revealed unpublished details about the trajectory prior to the accident.
According to the minute-by-minute analysis published this Sunday by The World, the driver tried to contact the Atocha Regulation and Control Center on at least four occasions without receiving a response.
The train was launched by the impact of an AVE at a speed of 47 km/h in just three seconds. Weighing close to 500 tons and with 147 passengers on board, it was stopped on the back track at the time of the attack.
Laura Gutiérrez, general director of Railway Transport at the Ministry of Transport, has asked for a formal explanation about the circumstances of the calls.
Hitachi Rail staff supervised signaling equipment at Renfe workshops in Madrid two days before the crash. The convoy will block kilometer 118 of the Madrid-Seville line bound for Andalusia.
The Adif control center in Madrid-Atocha was not aware of the existing emergency situation.
The CGT union delegate denounced that the supervision teams did not verify specific anomalies during the scheduled reviews.
Ten days after the accident with 69 deaths, the investigating judge has summoned the engineer responsible for railway maintenance for next Tuesday to testify.
Renfe has announced a comprehensive audit of the signaling system affected by the incident.
