Rubens Barrichello will accelerate the Williams FW33 model exactly one hour before starting the São Paulo Grand Prix this Sunday (8), starting at 2 pm.
At 54 years old, Rubinho returns to the Autódromo José Carlos Pace in Interlagos to complete a single lap — a gesture he always wanted to do but was unable to achieve throughout his Formula 1 career.
The FW33 is the same car he drove in 2011, his last year in the category.
According to O Globo, the exhibition is scheduled for 11:30 am, preceding the main race on the calendar.
In an exclusive interview with Terra, Rubinho spoke about emotion and gratitude.
He revealed that he had received an unexpected visit from his son Fernando hours before the tribute. The FIA Formula 3 driver arrived at the track yesterday and left Rubinho speechless.
“My son arrived by surprise,” said Rubinho in an interview with Terra. "You know how much I love their presence. It was wonderful for me."
The veteran also took the moment to thank the Brazilian public for all the support received over the years. Fans turned out in droves to see Rubinho drive again in the Williams that they fell in love with in the 2000s.
Gazeta Esportiva confirmed that the special agenda will be fully disclosed in the week before the São Paulo GP. The fast lap is part of a schedule carefully planned by the paddock to pay homage to the driver from Minas Gerais who competed in races in the category between 1993 and 2014.
