A young Caucasian leopard was killed in a road accident on the RN291 in Razdolnoe, Russia

The body was discovered on Wednesday evening by provincial road service officers on Provincial Route 291, between the villages of Razdolnoe and Khassan.

L'animal, soupçonné d'être un mâle juvénile du genre Panthera pardus, died following a collision with a Toyota Corolla Axio traveling in the same direction.

L'espèce Panthera panther, commonly called the Caucasian leopard or great Siberian leopard, is listed in the national register as threatened because of its population which should no longer exceed three hundred individuals.

Local scientists have highlighted that road accidents are now the leading factor in human mortality for this subspecies.
