Have you ever wondered what would happen if you took a family member as your spouse? Maybe or not. Know that there is a community here in Paris where endogamy is practiced to the point of making it a rule.
In the 11th arrondissement (Rue de Montreuil), “La Famille”, so called, is a community which requires all its “heirs” to marry another member of La Famille. It is a tradition that has existed for 2 centuries within this “Family”.
The existence of this secret family was discovered, by chance, by the genealogist Jean Louis Beaucarnot who was looking for “real Parisians”. Oh wow!!! He fell on it.
what do they look like?
they're not that different from the others, apparently. They are, a priori, completely ordinary French people…. They go to school like everyone else…. they blend in between the lines but yet, from a young age, keep secrets that only a handful of people are destined to know.
Their main rule: marry a family member or stay single.
The family is closed to outsiders and does not accept new members. His heirs must find their soul mate among the cousins. Otherwise, we remain single.
Violating this principle inevitably leads to exclusion from The Family. “We see ourselves torn from our parents,” testifies a young woman who had to leave La Famille at the age of 21, because she was in love with a man who was not part of La Famille.
they help each other
Within “The Family”, everyone knows everyone. They each care about the fate of the other members of The Family.
they like to party
they regularly organize parties exclusively reserved for the family... They really like to sing... Karaoke is one of their main pleasures...
Medical consequences
Consanguinity has led to the emergence of a genetic disease within The Family: BLOOM Syndrome. One of the fathers in this community suffered from this pathology.
However, this phenomenon is very rare. Only 2 – 5% of children are affected.
