The Los Angeles Kings travel to Columbus to face the Blue Jackets on March 9, 2026, as part of a five-game road trip. This game, initially scheduled for January 26, was postponed due to severe weather conditions in Ohio, adding an unforeseen dimension to this National Hockey League meeting.
The Kings are looking to bounce back from a loss to the Montreal Canadiens, while the Blue Jackets are hoping to capitalize on their home ice advantage. This matchup comes at a key moment in the season, where every point counts for the teams vying for the playoffs.
Kings defenseman Drew Doughty enters this game with a five-game point streak against Columbus, dating back to the 2021-22 season. His performance could be pivotal, as he has already recorded 24 assists and 33 total points against the Blue Jackets throughout his career.
The adaptation of young players like Quinton Byfield and Shane Wright to the NHL level is another aspect to watch. Kings coaches have stressed the importance of this adjustment period, which could influence the team's dynamics on this tour.
The Blue Jackets, for their part, benefit from a favorable schedule after the postponement, but must face the pressure of performing in front of their home crowd. Their defensive strategy will be put to the test against the Kings offense, known for its speed and precision.
The weather conditions which caused the match to be postponed also affected the teams' preparation, with disrupted training and complicated travel. This could play a role in keeping players fresh and focused on the ice.
In the broader context of the NHL, this game illustrates the logistical challenges teams face due to increasingly frequent extreme weather events. The league must adapt to maintain the integrity of the schedule and the safety of participants.
In conclusion, this meeting between the Kings and Blue Jackets promises to be a test of resilience and strategy, with potential implications for the conference standings. Fans can expect an intense matchup, where each team will look to score valuable points in the playoff race.
