The polls closed on Monday March 9 at 3 p.m. in Pescara, marking the end of a municipal vote which mobilized citizens in the city's 23 voting sections. The counting began immediately afterwards, in a tense political context following the partial cancellation of the previous elections by the Council of State.

Four candidates competed for the post of mayor, led by Carlo Masci, representative of the center-right and outgoing mayor, supported by a broad coalition. His main opponents were Carlo Costantini, supported by the center-left and the 5 Star Movement, as well as civic candidates Domenico Pettinari and Gianluca Fusilli.

From the first projections, the results showed a significant lead for Carlo Masci. According to Noto Sondaggi estimates, based on a sample of counted polling stations, he reached around 58.2% of the vote halfway through the count, leaving his competitors far behind.

This election follows a decision by the Council of State which partially annulled the previous vote due to serious violations, adding an unusual legal dimension to the electoral process. The authorities have ensured that this new consultation takes place in strict compliance with the rules.

In a statement to the press, Carlo Masci described his result as “stratospheric”, expressing his satisfaction at the support which, according to him, exceeds all expectations. He stressed that this victory rewards “good politics” and a local administration deemed effective by voters.

The implications of this re-election are significant for the Abruzzo region, where Pescara plays a key economic and cultural role. The political stability brought by this renewed mandate could influence urban development projects and local social policies in the years to come.

Observers note that voter turnout was robust, reflecting citizen interest in these elections despite previous disruptions. This election is seen as a test of confidence in local institutions after a period of turbulence.

With this large victory, Carlo Masci begins a new mandate with massive popular support, promising to continue the reforms initiated. Future challenges include post-pandemic management and economic revitalization, issues that will shape the future of Pescara.
