Valencia deploys an exceptional transport system for the Fallas 2026

The city of Valencia is preparing to experience one of the most anticipated events of the year with Fallas 2026, and local authorities have announced an ambitious transport plan to guarantee smooth mobility during the festivities. From March 13 to 20, the metro, tram and bus networks will operate without interruption, providing a convenient solution for the thousands of visitors and residents who will participate in the celebrations.

This special system, put in place by Metrovalencia and the Municipal Transport Company (EMT), represents a significant investment in human and material resources. Services will operate 24 hours a day for seven consecutive days, for a total of 168 hours of uninterrupted operation. This initiative aims to respond to the massive influx expected during the main days of Fallas, traditionally marked by parades, fireworks and popular gatherings.

Forecasts indicate that nearly three million travelers could use the metro and tram during this period, a figure that could reach 4.2 million if we include the days before the official start of the festivities. For EMT buses, three million seats will be made available, allowing users to move freely throughout the city, including during nighttime hours when festive activities often continue until the early hours.

This measure is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving the visitor experience and reducing traffic jams, which are often problematic during major events. By offering a reliable alternative to the private car, the authorities also hope to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preserving air quality in the city center, where the concentration of people is highest.

Users will be able to benefit from increased frequencies on the busiest lines, with more regular passages during peak hours. Additional teams will be deployed in stations and at bus stops to ensure the information and safety of travelers, particularly during overnight stays when crowds remain high. Temporary information terminals will also be installed near major Fallas sites.

This exceptional transport plan demonstrates the importance given by the Valencian authorities to the logistics of major cultural events. This is a concrete response to the challenges posed by the massive influx of tourists, which represents both an economic opportunity and an organizational challenge for the city. The Fallas, classified as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, attract visitors from all over the world every year, thus strengthening the international influence of Valencia.

The economic benefits of this event are considerable, with positive impacts on the hotel, catering and local commerce sectors. By facilitating travel, the transport system aims to maximize these benefits by allowing visitors to move easily between the different sites of interest, from monumental fallas to concerts and street events that punctuate the festive week.

This initiative could serve as a model for other Spanish cities facing similar challenges during large popular gatherings. It demonstrates that with rigorous planning and appropriate investments, it is possible to reconcile festivities, sustainable mobility and safety for all participants, while preserving the authentic and joyful character of local traditions.
