Surne Bilbao, defending champion of the FIBA Europe Cup, is preparing to face Turkish Petkimspor this Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 6:15 p.m., in a crucial first leg for the quarter-finals. This meeting will take place at the Aliaga Belediyesi Enka Arena in Türkiye, marking the start of an intense series for Basque basketball players.
Both teams enter this playoff with distinct challenges. Bilbao Basket, after a painful defeat against San Pablo Burgos the previous Saturday, must quickly pull itself together to maintain its European ambitions. For their part, Petkimspor suffered a disappointment in the domestic championship, conceding more than 100 points at home, which could affect their confidence.
The trip to Aliaga represents a logistical obstacle for the Spanish team, in a sometimes unstable regional geopolitical context. However, club officials expressed confidence that the trip would be safe, downplaying risks linked to international tensions. This careful preparation aims to guarantee optimal concentration on the ground.
Among the players to watch, Jaylon Brown, former member of Bilbao Basket between 2019 and 2021, now plays for Petkimspor. His in-depth knowledge of the opponent could prove a valuable asset for the Turkish team, adding a fascinating tactical dimension to this confrontation.
Bilbao Basket's defense of the title has symbolic importance for the club and its supporters, strengthening its reputation on the European scene. A victory in this double confrontation would open the way to the semi-finals, thus consolidating the team's position in the continental basketball hierarchy.
The economic and media stakes of this competition are not negligible, with potential benefits in terms of visibility and income for the participating clubs. For Bilbao, succeeding in retaining its trophy could attract new partnerships and strengthen its attractiveness to international talents.
Basque fans will be watching this match closely, hoping that their team will overcome recent difficulties. The local passion for basketball, combined with the commitment of the players, creates an atmosphere conducive to memorable performances, despite the challenges encountered.
This meeting illustrates the competitive dynamics of the FIBA Europe Cup, where every detail can make the difference. The coming days will reveal whether Bilbao Basket manages to defend its heritage or whether Petkimspor springs a surprise, in a duel that promises to be intense until the end.
