Massachusetts was hit by a snowstorm that left more than 10,000 homes without power. The storm began at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday and caused significant snowfall in Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire counties. Weather forecasts had warned of snow accumulation in these areas.
According to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Northampton County is the hardest hit, with more than 2,800 homes without power. Western Hampshire and Franklin counties, as well as the northern part of Berkshire County, have also reported a large number of homes without power.
The regional electric company is currently working to restore electricity in these affected areas. Teams have been deployed to clear power lines and repair damaged poles.
The snowstorm also affected roads and public transportation in the region. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation reported that roads were slippery and dangerous due to snow and advised motorists to drive carefully.
MEMA has issued a winter storm warning in effect until 8 a.m. Wednesday for affected counties. Residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel during this time.
Despite the disruption caused by the snowstorm, local authorities said no major damage has been reported so far. Rescue teams remain on alert for any emergencies that may arise due to the storm.
