After recently expressing their country's desire to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Finnish President and his Prime Minister announced this Sunday, May 15, that their country has decided to request membership in NATO.
During a press conference, the President of Finland, Sauli Niinisto, declared that this day is historic and a new one is opening in Finland. “It’s a historic day. A new story is breaking.”

A decision already welcomed by member countries of the organization such as France, Germany, England and Poland. And military and economic assistance during the accession process is offered by the United Kingdom to Finland, at the end of an agreement signed between the English Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and his Finnish counterpart Sanna Marin.
Despite the oppositional attitude displayed by Turkey, a NATO member country, towards the integration of the two Nordic countries creates uncertainty over the outcome of the process, the head of Croatian diplomacy, Gordan Grlic Radman believes that the NATO member countries are on the right track to find a consensus on the integration of Finland and Sweden, who wish to join the organization.
"I think the discussion is on the right track. I hope we will have a fruitful final discussion and a good result to show our solidarity (to the Swedish and Finnish people, editor's note)."
