The public health system of the Basque Country, Osakidetza, is launching a vast recruitment operation with more than 1,000 permanent positions intended for the professions of nursing and physiotherapist. This initiative is part of a context of strengthening the medical workforce after the challenges posed by the pandemic and the growing needs of the population.
The positions offered cover various specialties and are located in hospitals and health centers in the region. This campaign aims not only to fill current gaps, but also to anticipate future demands on healthcare, particularly in rural areas and emergency services.
Interested candidates will have to follow a rigorous selection process, including written tests and interviews. The key dates for taking up positions are set between March 16 and April 24, 2026, depending on the category, with recent adjustments to correct administrative errors reported by the unions.
Unions in the sector, such as the Sindicato de Enfermería (SATSE) and the Sindicato Médico de Euskadi, have welcomed this initiative while emphasizing the importance of transparent implementation. They point out that job stability is crucial to attracting and retaining talent in the public system.
This approach is aligned with regional policies aimed at improving access to care and reducing waiting times. It could serve as a model for other Spanish autonomous communities facing similar challenges in terms of human resources in health.
Experts believe that this increase in permanent staff could have a positive impact on the quality of care and patient satisfaction. However, they warn of the risks of bureaucracy and delays in the recruitment process.
At the same time, Osakidetza plans ongoing training for newly hired staff, to ensure effective integration and the maintenance of high standards. This holistic approach aims to create a sustainable and motivating work environment.
In the long term, this massive recruitment strategy could help strengthen the resilience of the Basque health system in the face of future crises. It represents a significant investment in human capital, essential to guarantee quality public services.
