Gauff, 24, showed his power on the ball, earning 15 service points and not losing a game on his first serve.

Pegula, 31st world number, tried to react in the second round but was dominated by the resourcefulness of the young prodigy.

The audience applauded Gauff for a long time at the end of the match, revealing his importance in the world tennis landscape.

The final between Gauff and Pegula will be broadcast live from 2:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. GMT) on the official tournament channels.
