AVM, the Berlin-based company specializing in networking equipment, launched version 8.25 of its FritzOS operating system this week. This update mainly aims to correct a malfunction related to hardware acceleration, which disrupted connection performance on several recent devices.
The first affected models are the FritzBox 6660 and 6591 cable routers, as well as the FritzRepeater 600. According to information provided by the manufacturer, the bug was present in previous versions 8.20 and 8.21, leading to a noticeable drop in data transmission speed.
The technical issue identified affected network packet handling when hardware acceleration was enabled. This feature, designed to optimize traffic processing, instead caused unexpected slowdowns for users, particularly during streaming sessions or intensive downloads.
In addition to this major correction, FritzOS 8.25 includes various stability and security improvements. Owners of eligible devices are invited to install via their equipment management interface, generally available in just a few clicks.
