FritzOS 8.25: a crucial update for routers and repeaters in Germany

German manufacturer Fritz has released the FritzOS 8.25 update, aiming to resolve an internet speed issue that was affecting some users. This version, initially available for specific models, marks an important step in optimizing the performance of network equipment in Germany.

The first compatible devices include the Fritzbox 6660 Cable and Fritzbox 6591 Cable routers, as well as the FritzRepeater 600. This gradual release allows Fritz to test the stability of the software before possible expansion to other models, a common practice in the technology industry.

The main fix addresses a bug present in previous versions 8.20, which could reduce internet connection speed. Affected users reported intermittent slowdowns, particularly impacting demanding online activities such as video streaming or online gaming.

Besides this fix, FritzOS 8.25 introduces minor functional improvements, such as UI optimizations and security tweaks. These updates aim to strengthen the reliability of devices in a context where dependence on the home network continues to grow.

At the same time, Fritz announced the development of the Fritzbox 5690 XGS router, designed for XGS-PON fiber optic connections. This model, still in the testing phase, illustrates the company's strategy to support the expansion of broadband infrastructure in Germany.

The release of FritzOS 8.25 comes shortly after the release of version 8.24 in laboratory mode, a beta stage allowing advanced users to test the new features. This phased approach helps Fritz gather feedback before mass deployments.

The implications of this update are significant for the German market, where Fritz is a major player in home networking solutions. In a competitive environment, keeping software up to date is essential to ensure customer satisfaction and data security.

Users are advised to check the availability of FritzOS 8.25 through their device management interface. Fritz plans to expand this update to other models in the coming weeks, based on initial feedback.
