The Banco Central do Brasil took a major decision this Friday, March 27, 2026 by ordering the extrajudicial liquidation of Entrepay Instituição de Pagamento S.A. This measure also applies to other entities of the same group, notably Acquio Adquirência and Octa SCD, forming a small financial conglomerate classified in the S4 segment of the regulation.
According to the authorities, this action was motivated by a serious compromise in the economic and financial situation of the leading institution. Investigations revealed repeated breaches of prudential standards, exposing creditors to significant risks. The regulator considered that the continuity of operations threatened the stability of the system.
The Entrepay group represented a tiny part of the national financial system, with only 0.009% of total assets last December. Despite this modest size, the failures observed justified rapid intervention. It is important to note that client funds are not covered by the Credit Guarantee Fund, which could complicate recourse for affected savers.
The CEO of Entrepay, Antônio Freixo, known by the nickname “Mineiro”, had already been the subject of Operation “Compliance Zero” and his name was cited in investigations concerning Banco Master. This history probably weighed in the regulator’s risk assessment. The decision comes three weeks after a report from the Neofeed website noted difficulties within the company.
This liquidation is part of a context of strengthening supervision of payment institutions in Brazil. Banco Central has intensified its controls in recent months to prevent systemic crises. The authorities seek to send a clear message about the importance of respecting the rules in the financial sector, which is particularly sensitive to disruption.
The implications for the Brazilian payments market are multiple. On the one hand, this demonstrates the vigilance of regulators in the face of non-compliant players. On the other hand, this could accelerate the consolidation of the sector, where small structures sometimes struggle to keep up with regulatory developments. Entrepay’s competitors could benefit from this forced exit from the market.
For Entrepay customers and partners, the coming period will be crucial. They will have to follow liquidation procedures to recover their assets, in a process that could prove long and complex. The authorities have assured that they will closely supervise operations to minimize negative impacts on the real economy.
This decision serves as a reminder that even small players are not immune from regulatory sanctions when they threaten the integrity of the system. It also highlights the importance of robust governance in financial institutions, regardless of their weight on the national market.
