An intruder broke into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco home early Friday morning and "savagely assaulted" her spouse, Paul Pelosi, according to a statement from Drew Hammill, the speaker's representative.
“The attacker has been arrested and the inquests seek to reveal the motivations for this attack”, according to this statement
“Mr. Pelosi was taken to a hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.”
The break-in at his home raises questions about the safety of the family of one of the country's top officials.
The U.S. Capitol Police are assisting the Office of Government Review and San Francisco Police in a joint investigation into the break-in.
According to the White House, President Biden called House Speaker Pelosi Friday morning to offer support following the assault.
