Reports indicate that the sounds of gunfire rang out in the localities of Vivy Mitchell, Torcelle, Pernier and near the police academy intersection. This outbreak of violence quickly gave rise to calls for help from residents, alerting law enforcement to the tense situation.

One of the residents, who wished to remain anonymous, called Vivy Mitchell an “improved ghetto” in a message addressed to the editorial staff of Juno7. An audio recording shared with us revealed the intensity of automatic weapons blasts that echoed through the area for nearly a minute, exacerbating the growing concern.

Pernier and Torcelle, two neighborhoods close to Vivy Mitchell, were also affected by this wave of violence. These areas, often targeted by individuals linked to the group Vitelhomme, face a long period of instability and threat to security. A resident of Vivy Mitchell expressed a desire to reconsider their situation, even considering leaving the area with their family if the situation does not improve quickly.

Social media has been flooded with photos and videos showing clouds of black smoke, suggesting that fires have occurred. However, confirmed reports on property damage remain unclear. While it cannot be confirmed with certainty whether houses have been set on fire, unverified accounts suggest that residences were deliberately targeted.

These events occur against a backdrop of growing unrest in Port-au-Prince, as gangs continue to exert their control over the population. Neighborhoods such as Carrefour-Feuilles have seen many residents leave their homes to escape gang violence. Last week, it was the Solino area which was attacked by armed individuals coming from Bel-Air. Today, the wind of panic is blowing in Vivy Mitchell and the surrounding neighborhoods, highlighting the urgency of action to restore security.
