Former Chilean MP, Gabriel Boric won the second round of the presidential elections and is elected president of Chile this Sunday, December 19, 2021. He won his victory with 56% of the votes to the detriment of José Antonio Kast, candidate of the far right.
Of the 55% of the population who participated in the elections, 56% voted for Mr. Boric against 44% for his direct competitor. This, after the counting of more than 99% of the polling stations.
After his victory, in a call for unity, Mr. Boric said:
“I want you to know that I will do my best to meet this formidable challenge and that our country is at its best when we are united” , he said.
Mr. Kast for his part, after his defeat affirmed:
“I just spoke with Gabriel Boric and congratulated him on his great triumph. He is today the elected president of Chile and deserves all our respect and our constructive collaboration”.
Presented as a disciple of social justice. Mr. Boric will have his work cut out for him, because Chile is currently the most unequal country in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). It must be said that the young man on the left was elected deputy of Chile in 2014. He will take office on March 11, 2022.
