Since March 2022, YouTube has completely banned the monetization of videos for Russian audiences. Previously, the platform temporarily disabled the display of advertisements to Russian viewers, part of the revenue from which was sent to the authors of the videos.

YouTube video hosting has completely suspended all YouTube monetization functions for Russian users, including Premium, Music Premium, Sponsorship, Super Chat, Super Stickers and Merchandising, Russian video authors have received a corresponding notification.

"This means that YouTube creators will temporarily stop generating revenue from these features in Russia. These changes do not apply to viewers outside of Russia," the statement said.

In early March, video hosting temporarily disabled advertising aimed at Russian users due to the war in Ukraine; and advertising has also disappeared from the Google search engine. This is what YouTube calls the main way to earn, revenue from advertising impressions is divided between the platform and video authors connected to the video hosting partner program.
