On the night of May 15 to 16, a total lunar eclipse took place.

According to Space.com , if the weather is cloudless, residents of most of America, Africa and Europe will be able to watch it.

It should be noted that the eclipse was visible in all regions where at that moment the Moon was above the horizon. The peak phase of the eclipse was seen by residents of most of North America, all of South America, central and western Europe, and most of Africa. In total, 2.7 billion people were able to watch the phenomenon.

Unlike solar eclipses, which can only be observed using special devices that protect the eyes, observing lunar eclipses is completely safe.

The eclipse began when the Moon enters Earth's penumbra, about an hour before it begins to sink into its shadow. Astute observers were able to see the penumbra as a small spot on the left side of the lunar disk, around 5:10 a.m. on May 16. The eclipse will become more noticeable at 11:28 a.m. (New York Time).

The Moon was expected to take three hours, 58 minutes and 27 seconds to completely pass through the Earth's shadow.

On April 30, the first solar eclipse of the year took place. It has been observed in Antarctica, South America and parts of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
